Who We Are

The C6 Safety Association is a non-government, non-profit organization funded through an operational agreement with the Workers' Compensation Board.

The ultimate goal of reduced cost of injuries and accidents in our industry relies heavily on the effectiveness of the C6 Safety Association to educate and influence as many members as possible to accept and utilize sound safety management principles. The actual reduction of WCB premiums is determined by a number of factors. Some of these factors members can influence and some they have no control.

The factors the employers can influence include:

  • The number of injuries and the severity of those injuries that occur in our workplace. Both the rate and severity of claims are the ultimate determinants of our WCB premiums.
  • The length of time a worker is away due to an injury. The length of claims can be adequately reduced through proper claims management techniques.
  • The cost of wage replacement. Higher wages mean increased costs for wage replacement.

The factors the employers do not have control over include:

  • Medical aid costs. Health care costs are skyrocketing.
  • WCB Administration. This usually accounts for about 19% of all compensation costs.
  • New injury categories. As diseases and illnesses are linked to work related activities, new categories of injuries are established as acceptable claims.

It is important for C6 Safety Association to develop strategies that will influence those factors that we have control over. We have established programs that address the number of claims and the severity of claims in our industry. This will assist in having positive impact on our compensation costs. Whether that means stabilizing rates or actually reducing them, it is possible and reasonable that we could eventually reduce our premiums if we effectively control the duration and rate of claims. Therefore, we must ensure that we are doing as much as is reasonably possible to influence those factors which we can control.

Our members range from one-man shops to companies with 10 or more employees. Covered under C6 Safety, there is an estimated 25,000 employees. The management style and techniques needed to create a safe workforce are dependent on many basic factors including the size of the workforce, location, resources available (people, training, suppliers and materials) as well as the types of work processes they engage in.

The delivery of our services is primarily through presentations. The presentations are offered as courses, seminars, meetings and on-site visitations. We promote our training and services through visitations, Employer Associations and Conventions.

Other than the TOP 5 initiatives, most of our interaction with our members is based on worksite visits. The bulk of our training and services will continue to be on-site training at no cost. The only exception to this rule is the Safety Management Seminars. Due to the fact that these seminars are focused on a select group of individuals (Senior Management) it will be much more practical and economical to host them in central locations around the province. They are offered at no cost.

The Safety Management Seminars provide information and resources on issues like loss prevention, due diligence, principles of health and safety management and return-to-work.

All training is "first-come, first served". We offer all courses and services that already exist like Forklift, WHMIS, Supervisor, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, OH & S Committee, etc.
